About Us

Jerome's is a New Zealand bookshop, offering a unique collection of hand-picked books.

We are not a large New Zealand book store, nor do we aspire to be one. Instead, we are selective - every book in our shop is hand-picked on the basis that it in some way informs, uplifts and elevates the mind and heart, or promotes excellence. On our shelves you will find:

Here at Jerome's we have catholic, that is, universal tastes. We aim to be eclectic, but interesting; to inspire excellence, challenge ideas and stimulate thought.

Jerome's is a small but growing bookshop, with new books added weekly. Bookmark us and come back soon.

Media & Culture

Mercatornet
Mercatornet is an innovative internet magazine analysing current affairs and key international news and trends which touch its readers' daily lives. The site offers ethical reflections on current affairs, promoting the transcendent dimension of human life. It seeks to place the good of the person at the centre of politics, education, social policy and the arts.

Movie Reviews
Contains detailed information about current movies, listing every feature in films or videos which might be of concern to parents, from violence, frightening scenes and disrespect for authority to smoking, profanity and sex.

Movie Reviews
Comprehensive reviews of movies since the 1950s. The site gives detailed insight to the moral suitability of films, although it doesn't have much detail about the plot.

Movie Reviews
Each film is subject to a four-part rating for artistic and entertainment value, moral and spiritual value, overall recommendability and age-appropriate audience. A separate review gives a very good idea of what the film is about, although it doesn't give much description of the problematic parts of the film.

Movie Reviews
Suggests reasons for the popularity of some films. A good site to use in conjunction with www.kids-in-mind.com. It has plot summaries, links back to Kids-in-Mind and background information about films with links to their official web sites.

Movie Reviews
The site lists material that parents may not want their kids to watch or hear, without rating the movies.

Education

Perspective Magazine
A magazine of news and views for all the family. Published six times a year, it offers parents sound film and video reviews, family-friendly commentary on current affairs and advice on raising children.

Catholic Education
This site has a comprehensive bibliography of materials which applies Catholic teaching to a variety of contemporary issues. Ideal for parents, teachers, students and the would-be well informed.
